Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies News and Admissions 2008

The AP Government has established Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies in 2008 to cater to the educational needs of the gifted rural youth. Three fully residential IIITs are established under RGU: one in Basara in Adilabad district, one in Nuzivedu in Krishna district, and one in Rajiv Knowledge Valley in Kadapa district. These Institutes will specialize in teaching and research in Information Technology and other emerging disciplines. 2000 students are expected be admitted in each IIIT in 2008-09 academic year.

The University is pleased to announce that 6000 students have been selected for admission in August 2008 including 5100 students selected from rural mandals and 900 selected on a State-Wide merit basis.

The tagline of the film is 'Deenikaina'. Ram and Genelia are the lead pair. Sreenu Vytla who gave two big hits with 'Dhee' and 'Dubai Seenu' is the director. Ram has just two films to his credit so far but he has already acquired the image of a good and stylish actor.
Story :
Chandu (Ram) is from a big joint family of RS Brothers.he is fresh out of college and falls in love with a girl(none other than heroine) who is passing in a Vehicle. Pooja(Genelia) is the only daughter of NRI Chalasani Prasad (Naga babu). She returns to India after the sudden death of her parents in an accident.Her Uncles( Kota Srinivasarao, Jayaprakash Reddy) are factionists and has a rivalry to each other .They had eye on Pooja's Rs.100Crore property and want her to marry their only sons.Chandu's friend Google Gopi (Ravi Varma) is in deep love with a girl who is about to marry and Chandu want to unite the lovers.Instead of Gopi's lover ,Chandu kidnaps Pooja.Chandu takes her to his home and gradually she falls in love with him.Her uncle Pedhinaidu(Kota Srinivasarao) finds her and takes her back to Bellary.How Chandu gets his dream girl forms rest of the story.

Highlights:
What any one expects from a Srinu Vytla's film?Good Comedy!right? Ready has loads of it .Srinu Vytla this times comes with a fully loaded Family entertainer in the lines of Ninne Pelladatha & DDLJ. He has a good script and great lineup of actors(Ram, Brahmanandam, Sunil, Dharmavarapu, MS Narayana, Jayaprakash Reddy, Kota..and the list goes on) and the result is ..as you expected. Though there isn't much story the screenplay(Gopi Mohan,Kona Venkat) is very good,So are the dialogues(Kona Venkat). Ram performed with ease,Genelia looks pretty.Brahmanandam steals the show as McDowell Murthy. Technicalities ( Camera - Prasad Murella,Editing - MR Varma)are adequate.

DASAVATARAM movie Review

The story starts with an incident taking place in 12th century during the rule of the Chozha dynasty when Hindus were divided into Saivites and Vaishnavites. Rangarajan Nambi (Avatar No.1) is a loyal disciple of Ramanuja Azhwar. King Kulothunga (Napolean - what a fantastic performance!), a follower of Lord Siva, compels Nambi to change his religious beliefs and worship Lord Siva instead of Lord Vishnu but Nambi refuses. The king then orders for the immersion of the statue of Lord Ranganatha along with Nambi into the sea.

After this meaningless first avatar, the movie shifts to the present scientific world. Govind (Avatar No.2), an American scientist invents a dangerous bio weapon in his lab but wants to destroy the same after realizing its dangerous consequences. But the US Govt and scientists don't allow him to do that. One fine day, Govind runs away from the lab with the bio weapon but Fletcher (Avatar No.3), a former CIA officer turned villian, chases him to get the weapon back to destroy other countries.

The weapon is mistakenly sent to an Indian address by courier where a 95 year old lady (Avatar No.4) receives the parcel. Govind immediately rushes to India and traces down the address. He is followed by Fletcher who is accompanied by his prostitute cum translator (Mallika Sherawat). The old lady refuses to give the weapon to them without understanding the danger it could cause and puts it inside a statue of Lord Vishnu.

The scientist captures the statue and starts running with it pulling Asin close relative of the old lady, along with him. Fletcher chases him till the end of the film. A foolish police officer Balram Naidu (Avatar No.5) too is in the race always chasing both these characters.

In between a Punjabi singer (Avatar No.5), US President George Bush ( Avatar No.6), a tall Muslim ( Avatar No.7), a martial arts trainer ( Avatar No.8) and a Southern district resident Annachi ( Avatar No.9) comes, does something and disappears.

Finally the tsunami comes to the rescue of the Scientist and destroys the weapon along with drowning Fletcher . The statue of Lord Rangaraja which was immersed in the sea in 12th century also appears on the shore after the tsunami.

What did Kamal Hassan really want to convey? Lord Ranganatha, the almighty who is sleeping inside the sea for centuries, finally sends a tsunami to destroy the bio weapon along with the bad guy. No doubt, Dasavatharam is really an average movie with a poor plot and characterization that fails in most of the departments and fails to attract the viewers.

What is the necessity or compulsion of portraying Kamal in 10 different get ups?To create some mindless hype or register it as a record in the Industry? Highly idiotic! Particularly the role of Punjabi Singer, Muslim tall man Kalifullah Khan, Annachi and Japanese martial arts trainer unnecessarily intervene in the flow of story.

Apart from Kamal, Asin plays dual roles for the first time but nothing is special in any of her get ups. Her performance is also not par excellence. Jayapradha appears in few scenes and does well in them. Nothing is special in Himesh Reshammiya's songs or Devi Sri Prasad's background score. Ravi Varman unnecessarily lifts the camera to top angle and shakes even inside a house.

Technically the film is far superior to any other Tamil movie in some scenes, particularly in the tsunami climax. The special effects of Jennie in the last 15 minutes simply rocks. Also the body language of Japanese Kamal is simply excellent. Watch this movie to see Kamal in 10 different avatars. But is it really enough to make a fan to watch a film? This is a big question stand before Kamal fans those known as the lovers of good movies like sensational Mahanadhi or Kuruthipunal!

Gandhigiri was a winner all the way at the 54th National Film Awards for 2006 with Lage Raho Munnabhai sweeping four honours in all, including Best Popular Film, Best Lyrics (Swanand Kirkire), Best Screenplay (Rajkumar Hirani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Abhijat Joshi), and Best Supporting Actor (Dilip Prabhavalkar, who portrayed Mahatma Gandhi in the film) and Best Music (Shantanu Moitra). The prequel to the movie, Munnabhai MBBS, had also bagged similar awards in 2003.

The Best Feature Film award has been bagged by Priyanandanan-directed Malayalam film Pulijanmam. The Best Actor award went to veteran Bengali film actor Soumitra Chatterjee for the Bengali film Podokkhep and the Best Actress award was bagged by Tamil actor Priyamani for Paruthi Veeran.

There has been no announcement on the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for outstanding contribution to Indian Cinema.

In the popular cinema category, Madhur Bhandarkar won the Best Director award for his film Traffic Signal and Anupam Kher starrer Khosla Ka Ghosla won the award for the Best Hindi film. This is Bhandarkar’s third national award — he had bagged the award for his films Chandni Bar and Page 3 earlier.

Kabir Khan and Madhu Kaithapram will share the Indira Gandhi Award for Best First Film of a director for their films Kabul Express and Malayalam film Ekantham, respectively.

Prabhavalkar who won the best supporting actor award for Lage Raho Munnabhai also won yet another award for the same category for his Marathi film Shevri.

Konkona Sen Sharma bagged the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in Vishal Bharadwaj’s Omkara, while Bhardwaj himself received the Special Jury Award. The Best Singer (male) and Best Singer (female) awards were awarded to Gurdas Mann and Aarti Annklekar Tikekar respectively.

The Nargis Dutt award for the Best Feature Film on National Integration was given to Kallarali Hoovagi — a movie based on a novel written by BL Venu.

Actor-turned-director Amol Palekar bagged the award for Best Feature Film (English) for his movie Quest that deals with homosexuality. The Best Feature Film on Family Welfare went to Karutha Pakshikal (Malayalam) and Faltu (Bengali).

In the non-feature film category, the Best Film Award went to Bishar Blues by Amitabh Chakravarty.

The Best Feature Film on Social Issues was bestowed upon the Telugu movie Hope that discussed the issue of students committing suicides on failing to meet parental expectations. The Best Film on Children’s issues award went to Telugu movie Care of Footpath and the Best Animation Film award was bagged by yet another Telugu movie Kittu.

The awards were announced by head of jury for feature films category, Buddhadeb Dasgupta, head of jury for non-feature films category, K Bikram Singh, and Madhu Jain, who headed the jury for best writing on cinema. The jury submitted their recommendations to Minister of Information and Broadcasting P R Dasmunsi on Tuesday.

Director (Directorate of Film Festivals) Neelam Kapur said the award ceremony would be held as soon as a suitable date is confirmed from the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The national award nominations are running a year behind schedule due to a controversy surrounding them, which was later resolved by the Supreme Court.

THE INTERNATIONAL INDIAN FILM AWARDS 2008

The nominations for the prestiguous IIFA Awards which are akin to the Oscars in Bollywood are out. The controversial things about this time’s awards though is that Aamir Khan’s critically acclaimed Taare Zameen Par will not feature in the list of nominations.
